Bandcamp Adds Physical Distribution

Bandcamp, a site for DIY digital music distribution, has up until now provided a free and simple service for posting and downloading music for sale. As of Monday users will also be able to sell and purchase physical copies of albums, also for free. The site’s notable for the various musical formats it offers; buyers, or as Bandcamp calls them, “nerds,” have the option of streaming or downloading in mp3, AAC, FLAC, or Ogg at qualities as high as 79.4 MB. Now vinyl and CD formats are available as well. Is this a new beacon of hope for anti-mp3 audiophiles who’ve resisted torrenting, and for artists who still want to release music physically? Or will Bandcamp’s faith in a material market cost it cash? Bandcamp users, let us know what you think! [Hypebot]
