Band of Horses sells music, deflects purists

Eventually, all will become Wal-Mart. The retailing giant recently became a player in the indie rock scene by purchasing "The Funeral", a song off Band of Horses's debut album Everything All the Time for use in a web-based advertisement. Though some music fans have leveled the deadly charge of "selling out," vocalist Ben Bridwell offers a very pragmatic answer about selling to the corporate giant: "What are you left with? People will forget that you are high and mighty." With Wilco selling entire albums to Volkswagen and Sonic Youth in partnership with Starbucks, it's clear that indie rock is open for business and finding buyers.
