Astralwerks to release Babyshambles album

Despite Pete Doherty's most *recent* arrest for possession of several Class A drugs, Astralwerks has recently announced that they will be adding Doherty's Babyshambles -- his side project-turned-career focus after his first hiatus from The Libertines -- to their already impressive repertoire of acts, which includes Air, Hot Chip, A Band of Bees, The Kooks, The Chemical Brothers, and the ever-crazy Yoko Ono. The Babyshambles' sophomore album, entitled Shotter's Nation, is slated for release on October 23, 2007 and has already garnered critical acclaim in the UK, with NME stating:
"It is a concise, invigorated and coherent collection of punch-packing pop songs. Babyshambles have far exceeded all expectations. This record is the work of a bunch of musicians hell-bent on making the best record they have in them".
The 12-song release promises to contain some of Doherty & Co.'s best work to date, and includes an appearance from Glasgow folk genius Bert Jansch on one track. Will this creative (and commercial) enlightenment mean a new, drug-free path for the frontman and his inadvertently-addicted pets? My guess is... no.

That last sentence makes horribly good sense when paired with the next news clip about Pete's cat. Hope's starting to fade...

I want to hear it too. I desperately want it to be good - I'll say it, i really think the libertines' first album was classic, the second was great too... down in albion was definitely disappointing, but i hold out hope that this guy could once again translate his junkie ways into great r'n'r

The Babyshambles EP that came out in December wasn't terribly good, though. I remember reading something about this new album, where the band said they're all writing songs for it instead of having Pete write all of them. Not sure what that'll mean, though I also hope it does well.

I, too, am incredibly excited to hear it -- I saw them (and Kate Moss, naturally) perform when I was in Florence last fall, and they were phenomenal. 'Up The Bracket' holds a special place in my heart, and the Babyshambles' EP wasn't too awful -- granted, most of the riffs were more or less identical to Libertines material so it wasn't a real "blow me away" release, but they show incredible potential even with a trainwreck of a frontman, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing what they can do as a team (fingers crossed).
