The Onion A.V. Club posted this list of ten great songs nearly ruined by saxophones. I've often wondered the dubious merits of jazzin' up the rock, though I think I still fall on the side that a righteous dabbling with the sax can still be sweet. Most of the picks here are alright, and though I've never had any problem with the sax on "Young Americans" or "The National Anthem" I can see why a less decadent listener than I would find them grating. A few Roxy Music songs are totally made by their saxophone, but they used it in sort of an odd manner, I guess... |

Yeah, Roxy realized the skronk potential of the saxophone. It can be a pretty abrasive instrument when used properly. |

I can't believe how many sax-in-rock haters there are in the comment section of that list. That combo is one of my very favorite things. |

Just listen to Van Morrison's ""Dweller on the Threshold" and you'll love the sax in rock. |

Why blast the saxophone? How many of Weird Al Yankovic's songs were ruined by that darned acordian?
