Avril Lavigne settles suit over similar songs

Avril Lavigne reached a confidential settlement with ‘70s rock band the Rubinoos over the claim that her song, “Girlfriend,” sounds a hell of a lot like their 1979 single, “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,” The Canadian Press reports.

Lavigne has said that she had never heard the Rubinoos song. And her manager consulted a musicologist who found no similarities between the songs. The manager said they settled to avoid the steep costs of a legal battle.
