In a scary incident last week, Oakland A's starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy was hit in the head by a line-drive off the bat of Los Angeles Angels shortstop Erick Aybar. McCarthy was knocked to the ground but was able to stand and walk off the field on his own.
Unfortunately, after being sent to a nearby hospital, McCarthy had to undergo brain surgery to relieve pressure in his head from the swelling. According to an A's trainer, McCarthy still remains "absolutely" in a life-threatening situation due to the delicate nature of a head injury.
However, a sign of good news has come via McCarthy's Twitter account where the pitcher sent out his first tweet since the injury in the form of an Arrested Development quote late last night:
"Crazy about this children's tylenol, can't believe they give it to kids."— Brandon McCarthy (@BMcCarthy32) September 8, 2012
Nine hours later McCarthy sent out another tweet in reference to his fantasy football team.
The good news in all of this, is that I set up my fantasy lineups beforehand. So there shall be no excuses at this point.— Brandon McCarthy (@BMcCarthy32) September 8, 2012
While McCarthy still remains in the hospital under constant observation, this is hopefully a good sign that he is on his way to recovery after a very scary incident.
