Sad news this evening: Aretha Franklin is reportedly suffering from pancreatic cancer, according to multiple sources. The illness has forced the 68-year-old singer to cancel all upcoming events.
According to local Fox 2 News in Detroit, where Franklin has lived for most of her life, the family explained that the soul singer is "OK," but asked for "the continued prayers and thoughts from the community."
Typically, patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are given just a 5 percent chance of living for five years, according to the Detroit News.
Last week the Queen of Soul underwent a mysterious, unexplained surgery, which she deemed a success. In a statement then, she said, "God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!"
Our thoughts and best wishes will be with the singer and her family in the coming weeks.
