What started as a joke on Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein's Portlandia might turn into an actual studio collaboration. On a recent episode of the IFC show, a fake band called Echo Echo enters the Deuce Hotel. And Armisen and Brownstein, who are working the front desk, are star-struck when they see the band members -- The Shins' James Mercer, the Decemberists' Colin Meloy, and former Sleater-Kinnery singer/guitartist Corin Tucker -- walk into the lobby.
Per usual, awkward hilarity ensues, though some people were left wondering if the three musicians would actually end up, you know, really working together. Mercer appeared to be more than up for the idea when Spinner asked if they had recorded anything:
"I don't know," he starts. "See, now I'm starting to think about, we've got to do this..."
Raise of hands for who would absolutely love to see this happen... We would, too. You can watch the sketch below. [Spinner]
