Arctic Monkeys Bowl A Wicked Googly

Via Virgin:
Fed up with fan complaints about sold-out concerts, Arctic Monkeys have announced that they have indeed booked the Lancashire County Cricket Ground in Manchester for a festival-type extravaganza on July 28, 2007. The 50,000 tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday; dedicated Monkeys-heads can register on the band's Web site to access a pre-sale offer the day before.
The band announced that in addition to headlining and playing the longest set in their relatively brief history, including songs from its debut album and yet-untitled new album due in the Spring, it will also handpick support acts for a day-long concert bill.ÂÂ Plans are also being discussed for a similarly sized brouhaha in the south of the country, depending on Arctic Monkeys' summer festival opportunities.
Drummer Matt Helders told NME:
"People always say they can't get tickets to our gigs, so hopefully there won't be any problems this time. We've got control of it, we can do what we want really.
"We've always fancied the idea of having our own event. Just something where we can pick the bands and just have a day where we can do a bigger gig - so we can get away without doing arenas."
