Arcade Fire Respond To "Who Is Arcade Fire" Meme

The Tumblr "Who Is Arcade Fire??!!?" is still going strong (my favorite is to your left) and it shows no signs of slowing. I mean, I got asked by a co-worker last night to explain what Arcade Fire sounds like, and my co-worker just rolled his eyes and said, "Sounds like typical Grammy-winning shit." Not really, dude.

At any rate, while at the Brit awards, Arcade Fire were asked to respond to the Meme, and they did it gracefully, as they are wont to do: "We're called Arcade Fire---Check it out on Google." Classic. They should have maybe included the addendum of "Also, our album Funeral is the best one." [NYMAG]

Man, Canadians are always hitting us over the head with our willful ignorance.

Arcade Fire = Canada's way of apologizing for Avril Lavigne, Beiber, Celine Dion and Nickelback. Actually, Canada, we already took William Shatner as reparation.

The wrong Canadian co-ed indie rock mob got the spotlight and the award at the Grammys. It should have been Newman, Case, and company. Arcade Fire may make a glorious racket, but Win Butler couldn't write a memorable song to save his life.

(Now the "good" examples you listed are great BUT!)

Win butler couldn't write a memorable song to save his life?

That's crazy.

See: "wake up". It stands out alone.

Take some theory. Learn some timing. Gain a little more culture, a greater world-view, and more of an ear for music.

Then, in ten years, sit back down and write another comment.

Sorry but have to agree with Tyrone... Arcade Fire makes interesting music but memorable? Not really.

This is coming from someone who's DAMN GLAD they beat out all the NON-MUSICIANS who were up for grammy awards (many of which actually won some... barf).

One day The Grammy's will actually award the most talented musicians instead of the most popular. Arcade Fire unfortunately doesn't fall into either category.

when they were interviewed during their big Neon Bible european tour, they said that everyone should check out their old stuff (Funeral) but i don't think they have to sell The Suburbs short this time around. They're on a steam roller right now and should try to ride it as far as they can

Sorry but I disagree with Tyrone and powbangboom - Arcade Fire songs are so memorable that tens of thousands of human beings show up at their concerts, and sing every word, out loud, in pure, unadulterated bliss. The aforementioned 'Wake Up' is an instant classic that strikes nearly everyone as a likeable tune (everyone, that is, except for Tyrone and powbangboom), and other songs like Keep The Car Running, Intervention, Tunnels, Power Out, In The Back Seat, simply ooze in a majestic (if bombastic) power.

Does Arcade Fire write 'memorable songs ????

David Bowie thinks so ... Dave Grohl thinks so ... Bruce Springsteen thinks so .... Guy also thinks they do ....

What does Tyrone and powbangboom think ? ... Who the heck cares ? ....

Guy talks about the songs' "majestic (if bombastic) power." That power doesn't belong to the songs themselves, but the band arrangements. Arcade Fire has a tremendous sound, but perform those same songs in a solo acoustic setting and Win Butler's songs are far less likely to impress.
