Arcade Fire not scoring Donnie Darko director's new movie

Remember that seemingly perfect match-up between the Arcade Fire and Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly? Win Butler must have been bemused when he woke up on Tuesday and read news of his burgeoning career as a soundtrack composer. Butler has clarified the situation on the Arcade Fire’s blog, stating: “Arcade Fire is NOT doing the soundtrack to any film.” Whoops. Sorry, Win. We got it wrong.

So the identity of the “very famous band” Kelly is working with on The Box remains a mystery. Or does it?  Butler does say “Regine, Owen Pallet and I may do an instrumental piece or two for Richard Kelly’s new movie…we met at a show this year and hit it off, but we are not planning on doing any major work for a while, and this would not constitute a soundtrack or a release.” Which is a pretty disappointing outcome to the story.

Arcade Fire fans may be interested in Butler’s love for Jay Reatard, who gets an enthusiastic mention in a few of his blog posts. Anyone care to start the rumors of a Reatard/Arcade Fire collaboration?

Arcade Fire news often turns out to be false rumor. That whole stolen basketball controversy was pretty silly.
