Arcade Fire "Black Mirror" (Track Review)

Ruh roh. I'm starting to get worried about Neon Bible. First of all, the title is unoriginal--nipped from the lesser-known John Kennedy Toole novel, is it not? I haven't been impressed with "Intervention," all empty organ bombast. And now here's "Black Mirror," which sounds a lot like some of the more boring tracks off Funeral--"Neighborhood #1" or "Une Anee Sans Lumiere," say. Yet again, its over-orchestrated. And Win Butler doesn't seem to have anything interesting to say, toward the end of the track actually reverting to the dreadfully expected "mirror, mirror on the wall chant." Let's hope this doesn't spell sophomore slump.
Listen to the "Black Mirror" here.

Yikes. 2 unimpressive tracks in a row. Not that we should expect a retread of Funeral but we are fair in expecting more than this...

Had to pull the audio guys.I got an email from the mangament and the label asking for the MP3 to be taken down. I don't understand since the MP3 is up on the band's site, but so be it.

Interestingly enough, I can't get the audio to work on their website, whereas I never had trouble with Prefix's media. So bollocks to their management.

I'm not crazy about this track, but "Intervention" gives me goosebumps. I don't understand how you can't love the organ. "Black Wave/ Bad Vibrations" is realy good too. I still have high hopes for the album.

It's not that I don't enjoy "Intervention" and I agree that the organ gives the track a cool vibe. It just doesn't knock my socks off like I hoped it would.

Well, to be fair, my comment was directed at John since he said he wasn't impressed with the track (and specifically the organ) in his post, but I guess I can sort of see where you're coming from. It's not as anthemic as, say, "Rebellion (Lies)" but I still think it's a solid track.

i actually like neighborhood #1 and this track a lot, and i'm not an arcade fire fan.

I love Neighborhood #1. It's proably my second favorite track on the album.

Both Neighborhoods are amazing. Really depends on my mood.

My neighborhood is definitely the best. Drug dealers, hookers, the homeless. You really can't beat that.
