Arcade Fire Album 'The Suburbs' Set For August Release

After a period of protracted silence, suddenly the Arcade Fire floodgates have opened. Yesterday we got to hear a new single and its B side from the band, and now comes more news of that highly anticipated third album, which will be titled The Suburbs and is set for release on August 2 according to NME (August 3 in North America).

The album was produced by the group in collaboration with Coldplay/Bjork collaborator Markus Dravs, and that's the cover art below. No further details, such as a track listing, are available yet, but we do know the band has been working with Spike Jonze on a video project related to the record, and presumably the spate of summer dates already announced will allow them to preview material from The Suburbs. Pre-order information is here.

Releasing an album in mid summer is an unusual move—this is traditionally a barren period when most of the music industry goes quiet and gears up for the onrush of albums in the fall. But with little competition around to bother them, and album sales plummeting to an all-time low, expect The Suburbs to feature strongly on the Billboard chart when it surfaces.
