A.R. Rahman Wins Best Song for Slumdog Millionaire, but M.I.A. Does Not

Considering he held 2/3 of the nominations for Best Song, it shouldn't be surprising that A.R. Rahman walked away with an Oscar for his work on Slumdog Millionaire's soundtrack last night. But what is surprising is that the committee opted to give Rahman an award for "Jai Ho" and not "O Saya," a song that featured M.I.A. You'd have thought that tossing an Oscar M.I.A.'s way would have given the Oscars some easy indie-cred. Maybe that was their way of punishing her for deciding not to perform from a bed onstage.

Rahman also won the Best Score award, adding to a winning night for Slumdog, which also won Best Picture and Best Directing, among others. The full list of Oscar winners is up for debate here.
