The poster children for how much great hip hop is out of print, Poor Righteous Teachers have four great records, all near classics, all out of print. Holy Intellect is their first, and - handicapping for contemporary styles - it may be their best. Here is everything you could want in an early 90s conscious hip hop record: smart lyrics, crisp drum beats that punch through the tracks, and the occassional party track. But, like on many of PRT's records, the production is the star here. Way ahead of its time, consistently strong, occasionally brilliant.
