Antony’s disco-tastic contributions to the Hercules and Love Affair album demonstrated his versatility as a performer. His work with regular backing band the Johnsons doesn’t usually deviate far from their chamber song template, but that’s all set to change with the release of a new single.

Antony and the Johnsons are issuing a version of “Aeon” from The Crying Light as a single on August 3 on Secretly Canadian (Rough Trade in Europe). It comes backed with a version of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love,” which the band has often covered in concert over the years.

This fan-shot video from the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London is a recent capture of Antony’s treatment of the song. It’s barely recognizable at first, with Antony and his band completely transforming Beyonce’s track, making it sound exactly like an off-cut from I Am a Bird Now or The Crying Light.
