It's funny how things work out sometimes. As Metal Insider notes, some businesses on the Bronx's 161st Street were wary of next Wednesday, Sept. 14's Big 4 concert. The event features sets from metal giants Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax, the last of whom actually hail from the New York City borough.
And wouldn't you know it, some Bronx officials must have done their research and have decided to go beyond merely celebrating the metal concert. Bronx Borough President Rueben Diaz Jr. and the Bronx Tourism Council have come together to declare that Sept. 14 will henceforth be known as Anthrax Day in the borough.
Diaz Jr. issued the following statement on the decision:
“The Bronx may be known as the home of hip-hop and salsa, but make no mistake, our musical contributions are much more expansive. These heavy metal legends grew up right here in our borough, and I am proud to welcome Anthrax back to their Bronx home.”
Pretty wild and the hospitality doesn't end there. The Bronx Tourism Council is going so far as to run a Metal Heads Welcome promotion. This will include (seriously) “Metallica Martinis” and “Metal Mayhem Meatball” specials at Yankee Statidum, which is the site of the Big 4 concert.
