Ah, MySpace, what’s not to love? Once little more than a virtual petri dish where pedophiles could troll for lonely, naïve teenagers, the web’s great communicator is now a savior for long lost and nearly forgotten 80s metal band Anthrax. Dan Nelson was plucked from lead singer obscurity recently after reaching out to Anthrax axeman Rob Caggiano via MySpace.
“We sent music back and forth, got together, and jammed for 10 hours straight," Nelson said in a statement issued by the band's publicist. “After 10 hours, he said, 'I think you'd be right for Anthrax.’”
Anthrax hasn’t released material since We’ve Come For You All in 2003. The band formed in 1985 with singer Joey Belladonna who was canned in 1992 and replaced with John Bush. Belladonna rejoined in 2006 for a reunion tour, but apparently the band couldn’t keep it together long enough to get back into the studio.
Nelson, 31, has played in bands in the New York/Long Island area. Anthrax is working on new material and plans to get back in the studio asap. [Reuters]
