The demanding cycle of touring and promotion can have an adverse effect on new bands—just look at what happened to The xx last year. The Drums have become one of the fastest rising acts of 2010, and it looks like their workload has taken its toll on founding member Adam Kessler, who has quit the group.
"There have been some questions as to recent events and we are sorry to say that Adam has left The Drums," reads a statement on the band’s website. "Jonny, Jacob and Connor are devastated and are keeping to themselves and with friends at this time. The band are currently on the road in America. Thank you for all of the support, it means a lot."
There hasn’t been any word from Kessler about the split yet, but the announcement was presumably a sudden one, as he played with the group just a few weeks ago at the huge Reading and Leeds festivals in England. Perhaps the whistling in “Let’s Go Surfing” finally got too much for him? Check our photos of the reconfigured Drums at this Florida show.
