Andre 3000, along with Cartoon Network, has been sued by a man claiming that the concept for Andre’s cartoon, Class of 3000, was originally his.
Postal worker Timothy McGee is alleging that the “characters, artwork, storylines [and] concepts" from Dre's Emmy-winning Cartoon Network series were all based on his ideas for an earlier project called "The Music Factory." Andre 3000 was credited with the exclusive creation rights for the show, a claim that McGee is disputing.
Andre’s cartoon premiered in 2006, but McGee is claiming he pitched the show to Cartoon Network chief Mike Lazzo way back in 1997, and Lazzo rejected it.
McGee’s lawyer is expecting there to be some compensation, at least for a similarity between the two projects, since both are set in Atlanta’s music scene and both have similar characters. [SOHH]
