Following a nice little online diatribe against all things Interscope, Conrad Keely and the rest of the fellows in ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have been quiet save for their scorching sets on the current Adult Swim tour. But their manager has broken the silence since Keely chopped off Interscope and Jimmy Iovine at the knees in his rant, which, unfortunately has been pulled and doesn't allow us to send you "here" if you haven't seen it in all its glorious entirety.
Manager Asif Ahmed did a little diplomatic backpedaling when he spoke to Billboard recently. "It was a mutual decision to leave Interscope," he said. "We were never able to forge a relationship with the marketing folks, and all the rounds of layoffs didn't help."
I still think Keely put it better though: "They really helped us to grow. They've taught us about the worthlessness of A&R people, how to yell at idiots running an art department, and how to shake hands with smiling retailers who have no idea who you are," as reported in Pitchfork.
Ahmed tells Billboard there were a string of problems with So Divided "It was supposed to be an EP, originally," he said. "They wanted to make it a full-length, and then there was a huge time lag before the release of the full-length. They ended up rushing to get it out in the fourth quarter, the record wasn't promoted, the single didn't hit radio and that was it."
And now for some good news: Trail of Dead plan to record early in the new year and hope to release an album in August. "We have some offers from indies, but nothing is final yet," Ahmed said.
