June 19 is the scheduled U.S. release date for the debut album from Icelandic female stringsters Amiina. It's entitled Kurr which is the Icelandic word for "cooing." Overload of preciousness alert! (Actually the name is more than just cutesy, since the ladies sing wordless vocals.) The album will be released by Ever Records. The girls got their start backing up Sigur Ros, and have recently played with Sufjan Stevens and here in L.A. at the Silent Movie Theatre, where word had the crowd awed at the band's eclectic earthiness. And so it is on the album as well; instruments employed on Kurr include singing saw, tuned water glasses, kalimba, and harmonium.

AMIINA

Woo! I've been waiting for a full length from Amiina forever. Even though they have released two great EPs you just know these ladies are too epic to be held in check by that format. Can't wait for the Kurr LP.
