Justin Guarini, runner-up on the first season of American Idol,  has admitted that  group sings on the show's elmination night are actually lip-synched. While he went on to say that the practice gives the harried contestants one less thing to worry about during the week, the more interesting question is if anyone actually assumed the contestants were performing live. It seems that after all the gaffes, sour notes, and awkward moments that have taken place during the individual rounds, most savvy fans would have put two and two together. Maybe, though, this dedicated few thought that despite the fact the contestants did poorly when a recording contract was on the line, they always dropped the proverbial hammer when performing a Phil Collins melody.
