Fullfilling the wishes of many a label head, while simultaneously pleasing fans who lambasted the overpricing of legal mp3 sales, Amazon is about to move pricing in their mp3 store beyond the simple 99 cents per track model. Amazon has launche a "Daily Deals" section in its store to promote certain albums at lower prices. Considering that Coldplay's X & Y was the Daily Deal yesterday, there will certainly be some high-profile albums available for prices ranging from 99 cents to $9. There will also be a "Friday Five" program, which promotes 5 albums on the last day of the week for $5. The flipside, of course, is that certain high-priority albums, such as Viva La Vida, will be featuring tracks nearly double the price. But price discrimination is healthy economics for a market like this one, so kudos to Amazon for breaking out of the iTunes mold. [Wired]
