Minimalist sound sculptors and Raster-Noton label mates Alva Noto and Byetone have been playing live together, both after their solo sets and at this year's Sonar Festival, as Diamond Version. Today, the duo announces that Diamond Version will be a full-fledged recording project, with four EPs due out for Mute in 2012 and an LP planned for next year. The first of these EPs, Technology at the Speed of Life/Empowering Change, is due out July 23.
Alva Noto, a.k.a. Carsten Nicolai, explains that the concept behind the group is based on "DSMC," or Daily Short Message Information Culture:
Diamond Version’s aesthetic is charged with surreal and subversive humour, drawing titles and iconography from a host of corporate slogans which are used as track titles across the releases. We both are obsessed with company logos. We collected these slogans and started reading them, without knowing the companies. In this amount and concentration they become absurd.
The band has released a "mission statement" video featuring many of these slogans, which can be viewed below. [FACT]
