Album of the Day: Tim Buckley

Tim Buckley - Goodbye and Hello
Though not as famous (at least these days) as his son, Jeff, Tim Buckley was one of the major voices in folk's psychedelic movement of the late 60s and early 70s. Goodbye and Hello was made before he really took his experimental spirit to the limit with his later work like Starsailor. Instead of the free-folk vocal performances and loose compositions that peppered his later work, this is relatively conventional, though it was certainly recorded with the contemporary innovations in rock in mind. Opening song "No Man Can Find the War" is brilliant, but the real center of the record is "I Never Asked to Be Your Mountain," a heart-breaking song written about Jeff and his mother, whom Tim left shortly after impregnating her (he only met Jeff once). It's a great song, and a special moment in rock history connecting two great artists.
