Album of the Day: Suba
Suba was Mitar Subotic, a Brazilian rising star who died tragically when his apartment caught fire. This is his only full record, and it'''s a startlingly complex depiction of Brazilian music at the turn of the century. While Suba leaves little doubt as to his nationality, this is a down-tempo record, and his pulsating beats merge very well with his samba rhythms. Both forward-looking and stubbornly dedicated to his heritage, any quick listen to this debut will leave the listener with mixed sentiments: sad that Suba'''s career was cut so short, thankful to have such a great reminder of his talent.
