Album of the Day: Jorge Ben

Jorge Ben - frica Brasil

Not the most pure example of the Brazilian sound (but then what one record can define a whole country?), its energy is still infectious in the most stereotypically Brazilian (read: wonderful) way. Funk, samba, and Musica Popular de Brasileira gets all mashed up into a spectacular presentation that never slows down. Rod Stewart ripped off "Taj Mahal" for "If You Want My Body," but screw it, it's still a great song, as is "Xica Da Silva" and the opener, the bursting "Ponta de Lanca Africano." If you own just one Brazilian record, etc.

I believe the CD reissue just recently went out of print about six months ago. You can still find it on import, and depending on your local store they may have copies left. I'm sure it will come back into print eventually, as I believe it has gone out of print before.
