Album of the Day: J.D. Crowe and the New South

J. D. Crowe and the New South - S/T
Country always gets the shaft. How many people have you heard say "I like everything except country" and really mean it? It's kind of tragic, because these are the same people who dismiss the commercial rock on the radio, yet they think country is represented by Faith Hill and Toby Keith. J.D. Crowe doesn't "technically" play country, he plays bluegrass, but whatever, it's just old-school country, and it's fantastic. This record was released in the 70s, and it's a revolutionary bluegrass document that carried the genre into modern times. The musicians on here are uniformly solid, and they went on to excellent solo careers of their own, including Ricky Skaggs and Tony Rice. A truly great record that should get those people saying "I like all kinds of music, period."
