Daara J - Boomerang
African hip-hop is beginning to really shine this decade, and Daara J is one of the groups at the forefront of the movement. The members' native Senegal has a strong musical tradition of incorporating world music styles, particularly Cuban, into their own interpretations, and it's this style of hip-hop (influenced by a few pioneers in the country) that the group follows. Rather than straight-ahead hip-hop, the group has evolved into a melting pot of styles, though the quick-fire rapping is still at the forefront of this record, Daara J's third. As hip-hop sweeps the world, it's groups like this that keep the genre fresh and ready for a new generation of global listeners.
