µ-Ziq - Lunatic Harness
It's pronounced "mew-zeek," and this is the sound of what jerks that didn't dance called "Intelligent Dance Music" or IDM. Part of the second big wave of the genre (along with Squarepusher and Aphex Twin's reinvention), Mike Paradinas used the drum 'n' bass stutter step and post-techno electro-drone to brilliant effect. Less jazzy than some of its contemporaries (and probably more danceable, though not exactly four on the floor), Lunatic Harness was his greatest achievement, the perfect synthesis of what was going on in positive and negative space electronic music at the time. Lunatic Harness is the kind of record that came right before the internet boom, at a time when electronic was poised to take over the world but didn't quite make it, and it suffers for both of these things in the history books. It shouldn't.
