Album of the Day: Bad Brains

Bad Brains - Bad Brains
I saw American Hardcore last weekend, and, I thought despite unavoidable flaws, it was really enjoyable, an excellent overview of the main hardcore movement from 1980 to 1986 told mostly in first-person accounts. In honor of the film, here's Bad Brains, the self-titled debut from the greatest, most important group in hardcore history. Almost totally ignored by mainstream rock history, Bad Brains are one of the great bands of all time, and along with I Against I, this is the perfect representation of their work. Unrelenting, effortlessly tight, and better produced than any other punk record made in a box, this is punk distilled, and it's all the energy in hardcore combined into 17 songs in 38 minutes. Nothing less than brilliant.
