Aim - Cold Water Music
Off the underrated Grand Central label, Aim makes downtempo that is much farther away from Air than the one letter substitution would have you believe. Instead of spacey lifestyle tracks, Aim is jazzy hip hop with crisp drum beats and drifting samples like horns and pianos. It's primarily an instrumental album (which is why it's considered electronic instead of hip hop at your local record store), but the guests, including AG, are uniformly strong. Records like this are often overlooked because, with the exception of a few tracks, they don't hit you on the first listen. But after six or seven years with it, I keep coming back to this very specific sound. Check out "The Force," and you might be hooked, too.
