The Cure - Disintegration
Though they are primarily known as a singles band, The Cure's best album only features two of their most famous songs, the near-perfect "Love Song" (which Robert Smith wrote for his wedding) and an expanded "Pictures of You." No other song stands out on the record, but that's exactly what makes it so good. This is a dark record, for sure, but it's also a HUGE record, that sounds like the arenas that The Cure could fill in the late 80s. The space on this record is remarkable, and it contrasts with the lonely, paranoid atmosphere displayed on nearly every one of the songs. Check out opener "Plainsong" and wallow in it.

Again, nice pick, Matt. I know this album best of their catalog. theres like 72 grim minutes on this one.

I love this album, but their best? I think that distinction goes to "The Head on the Door"

Similar to thinking of Abbey Road whenever I say Revolver is the best Beatles record, I think of The Head on the Door every time I say Disintegration is the best cure record. But I really think Disintegration has head on the door beat, not just because it is more cohesive, but because I think it beats all the depeche mode and new order records that sound so similar to it. it is the definitive record of its genre.

working on the review to the reissue of The Head on the Door as speak. Although, matthew makes a good point , Head on the Door is still most enjoyable to me.
