Emmanuel Jal and Abdel Gadir Salim - Ceasefire
A fantastic collaboration between a Christian rapper from southern Sudan and a Muslim folk musician from northern Sudan (there's a religious war going on there, people). Jal, the rapper, was a child soldier from the age of seven, until he managed to escape and get an education. Salim was actually stabbed while performing by a fellow Muslim who didn't approve of live music. Somehow, these two have come together to make a record in support of peace in their country. It's everything you would think a combination of African hip hop and Muslim folk music would be, if you think it would be awesome and insipiring. Basically ignored in the US, don't let this record go unnoticed.
