The Kinks – Lola Vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround
Though it isn’t their best record, Lola Vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround is probably their most varied, and along with featuring their biggest hit since “You Really Got Me,” includes many of their best songs, like “Strangers,” “A Long Way From Home,” and “This Time Tomorrow.” Subjects range from the horrible music industry to working class blues, in styles that range from British folk to the proto-arena rock that the band would eventually embrace. It makes for a great listen, even if it isn’t the unified whole that some of their masterpieces are.
