Album of the Day: Planxty

Planxty - Planxty (1973)
I realize 95 percent of Prefix readers are probably going to hate Planxty, an extremely influential Irish folk group that formed on the tail end of Britain's own traditional-folk revival. But hopefully the other 5 percent will see the beauty and skill involved in this track and seek out the brilliant full-length debut it's contained on. Yeah, there's the Irish twang and the bagpipes, but there's also amazing instrumentation, heartfelt lyrics delivered honestly, and high-energy performances that lift this above the average folk music. A great record that's as good today as it probably was thirty years ago.

I love traditional Irish and English folk (probably stems from getting dragged to the Irish Faire as a kid every year). This is lovely; any similar recommendations, by chance?

I've done a surface survey of irish folk, but nothing I've heard has stuck with me as much as this. Sorry I can't be of more service China.MK, you don't really love guinness and jameson until you've had enough to love bagpipes.
