Has former Creation boss Alan McGee gotten over the fact that My Bloody Valentine almost bankrupted his label? In the past McGee has referred to Kevin Shields as a “genius,” but more recent postings on his Guardian blog have demonstrated a remarkable volte-face. “My Bloody Valentine were my comedy band,” McGee said in 2007. “Ride were different - they were a rock band, really, a fantastic rock band - but My Bloody Valentine were a joke, my way of seeing how far I could push hype."Now McGee has hit out at My Bloody Valentine again, this time slamming their reunion tour on a post on his MySpace blog. McGee calls the band “nostalgic cabaret” and claims “the only trick Kevin Shields has anymore in 2008 is actual volume and double extra PA to numb you.” It is a little disappointing that a band as forward thinking as My Bloody Valentine are simply rehashing past glories on this tour. But it’s still going to be quite an experience for a whole generation of fans who missed out on seeing these songs performed live. [NME]

"Nostalgic cabaret" - ouch! But, as with the Pixies, we will go to the shows and we will be blown away by them.
