Akron/Family is set to release their untitled follow-up to 2007's Love Is Simple next April on Dead Oceans/Secretly Canadian. This is the first recording the band has done as a trio, with core member Ryan Vanderhoof leaving the band last year.
"There were other record labels that we liked, but Dead Oceans/Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguar was our number one first choice," said Akron/Family's Miles Seaton to Billboard.com. "It was really exciting that they were interested in us." Before signing to Dead Oceans Akron/Family was signed to Young God Records.
Seaton told Billboard that the new album is "inspired by many different directions." He elaborated, "I wouldn't say out of the box we sound like a whole new band, but there's a couple of extreme elements on this record. There's one track that emphasizes our fondness for extreme noise and painful, almost guttural sounds. We've alluded to these things, but I think there are a few moments that are mashing all those sounds together, into hopefully, one seven-minute prog masterpiece."
