Brooklyn’s Afropunk Festival will take place on August 23-24, and its lineup has just been revealed. Alongside headliners D’Angelo, Lianne La Havas, Body Count, Trash Talk, and Meshell Ndegeocello, over two dozen other acts will perform, including Shabazz Palaces, SZA, the Internet, Cold Specks, Straight Line Stitch, Fishbone, Alice Smith, and Valerie June. The festival’s 10th edition will drop anchor in Fort Greene’s Commodore Barry Park. It is a free event, although a modest donation will allow you to skip lines. The festival’s motto is “NO: SEXISM, RACISM, ABELISM, HOMOPHOBIA, FATPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA or GENERAL HATEFULLNESS ALLOWED. – YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.”
