Aesop Rock's new fable sees light of day

You wouldn't think that Def Jukie Aesop Rock has much trouble coming up with things to say, thanks to his "let's see how many syllables of borderline nonsense I can cram into each bar" style. But Aes's new short storybook "The Next Best Thing," a collaboration with underground artist Jeremy Fish, chronicles an artist dealing with a blockage of creative juices. Billed as "a children's book that's not for kids" -- though the skull and the gun on the cover probably help make that point -- the 24-page book comes with a companion 7-inch picture disc that chimes when it's time to turn the page. If it's half as good as Fast Cars..., we're in.
