The future of Aerosmith has looked cloudy since singer Steven Tyler started acting erratically last year. But now the band is taking positive strides toward the future, and has announced it will be auditioning singers to replace Tyler, with the new man (presumably it will be a man) filling in until he is ready to return.
Tyler was apparently addicted to painkillers, and is now set to undergo a series of operations that will require him to take a lengthy hiatus from the group. "We're already getting the word out there,” said Joe Perry about the auditions. “The word's been out there for a while. We'll start having some auditions, making some phone calls. Hopefully, we'll have found a new singer by the summer, and Aerosmith will be able to go back out on the road.”
Whether anyone will want to see Aerosmith without Tyler on vocals is a moot point, but it appears that opportunity is about to become a reality. Just don’t suggest Tyler has left the band. "As far as I'm concerned, he hasn't left the band,” confirmed Perry. “He's never said he was going to leave the band. It's just that he wanted to go off and do some of his own things.”
