Adele’s ’21’ Reaches 10 Million U.S. Sales

Adele’s remarkable run continues as her second album 21 has now gone “Diamond.”  It took less than two years for 21 to hit 10 million albums sold in the U.S. and fittingly it’s also the 21st album to reach the milestone. Worlwide 21 has sold over 25 million copies.

Usher’s Confessions and Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory also joined the “Diamond” club this year, but both releases took significantly longer to get there. Those albums were released in 2004 and 2000 respectively. The next album that will cross the 10 million sold mark is Pearl Jam’s Ten, which has sold 9.98 million units to date.

While sales of 21 have finally slowed down a bit, this past week another 28,000 copies were sold. 21 was released by XL Recordings on January 19, 2011. [Billboard]
