Adam Lambert, aka the second place finisher of this year's American Idol (I didn't watch it either), has come out as gay in a Rolling Stone cover story. This is a bit of a dispatch from the Obvious Department, because there has been widespread speculation over Lambert's sexuality since he joined the competition, with many people claiming the American Idol audience who didn't vote him to the top is anti-gay.
I can't speak to that, but Lambert coming out seems like it was planned since he became a favorite in the competition. The Rolling Stone cover story has been rumored for a while, and it is an easy, pre-packaged way to sell magazines. Since he lost, I imagine the media storm won't be as wild, but still, is this really a big deal? I just hope the guy gets his money for this, since Rolling Stone, American Idol, and his new record company RCA certainly will. [Idolator]
