It looks like James Blake won’t be alone on upcoming tour of the U.S. The electronic-soulman will be joined by Los Angeles’ Active Child, who, like Blake, isn’t the easiest artist to pigeonhole genre-wise. Fellow Prefixer Andrew Winistorfer agrees. Well, at least he did in his post of Active Child’s live performance of “She Was a Vision,” where Winistorfer wrote, “See, there’s a dude who plays harp, and he has a really high voice, but his songs sound like New Wave dirges.” There’s also the whole crashing soundscape thing going on in the background.
Difficulty of description aside, be sure to grab a coffee or something similar before the show lest you nod off to Blake and Active Child’s soothing electronics-heavy gentleness. You will also want to make sure you catch any new tunes from the latter as he’s prepping the release of his debut full-length album for an Aug. 23 release. That’s all we know about the record so far, though I would expect more details are coming soon.
