Back in May, Frank Ocean debuted a new A$AP Mob song, “RAF,” on his blonded RADIO show. The Raf Simons-glorifying track features A$AP Rocky, Quavo, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, and the enigmatic Frank Ocean himself. Now, a couple months later, a video has dropped for the modish tune. However, the visuals only include appearances by Rocky, Carti, and Quavo — Ocean and Uzi are cut from the song.
Opening with Rocky burning a flare stick, the whole video is set in one room with one camera facing an off-white wall. Rocky, Carti, and Quavo stomp around the room in various mixtures of high-fashion brands and outfits. The camera quality is grainy, blurry, and lofi — honing in on a vintage vibe. Other models show up throughout the video, posing and walking swiftly like they’re on the runway. As always, Flacko is smoking and rapping with swag and bravado.
“RAF” boasts an incredible cast of talent, but its most noteworthy accomplishment is giving Frank Ocean a beat to rap over. While there’s no doubt that Ocean has dabbled in delivering his own bars, he usually sticks to singing, or at the very least, sing-rapping (similar to The Weeknd). But on “RAF,” Ocean sounds like he’s been at it for years, spitting bars effortlessly alongside Rocky and Quavo.
Recently A$AP Rocky joined Playboi Carti for Carti’s “Magnolia” video. The two get into mischief throughout the city, while kaleidoscope effects create psychedelic visual distortions. Additionally, the two rappers joined Lana Del Rey for the song “Summer Bummer” from her new album, Lust For Life. Rocky also joined Lana for “Groupie Love.”
Last year, A$AP Mob released their debut album, Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends. The projected was centered by verses from ASAP Rocky, ASAP Twelvyy, ASAP Ant, ASAP Ferg, ASAP Nast, Playboi Carti and Yung Lord/ASAP Bari. Revisit the album below.
