A new Coldplay album could be out as soon as next year

It seems like the ink is still wet on dozens of opuses about how Coldplay recorded their latest, somehow amazing, album, Viva la Vida, with Brian Eno and are hoping people stop knowing them as the benchmark for telling if someone is gay. But the NME is reporting that the band recorded a bunch of extra tracks during the Viva la Vida sessions, nearly enough for a new album. The band is hoping to get back into the studio to record a few more tracks later this year in order to put a new album in 2009. Could the band be setting up to pull a Bloc Party (that is, give listeners short notice, and still remain on a major label)?
