A-Ha has been the butt of countless one-hit wonder jokes after hitting it big in the United States with "Take On Me" and then drifting off into obscurity. Doubtless there are a few music fans in United States who were aware of the band's continued two and a half decade career. I only just found out about their continued existence when Morten Harket announced that the band will be no more after its current tour. While "Take On Me" really was enough Norwegian synth pop for a lifetime, there seems to be something compelling about being able to listen to over two decades of a band's discography at once. Perhaps there is a great undiscovered treasure trove of A-Ha music out there. More likely, though, I'm just getting sentimental for the halcyon days of my youth, when MTV played videos instead of banal reality series. Either way, Vaya con Dios, Morten, Magne, and Paul. [NME]
who knew?
First Captain Lou, now A-Ha. Tough couple of days for novelty vids.
Take on Me is still an awesome video though.
Why didn't these guys take off? "The Sun Always Shines On T.V." was also pretty good. Were they just too European?
They have done some great tunes. I thank them for getting me into synth pop at an age of 9. Hunting High and Low was my first ever album!!

I have followed this band for the last 25 years. They have had continued sucess over Europe and have released 9 studio albums. They also did the theme tune for the athletics in Berlin and the living daylights track for the james bond movie of the same name. They have done some cracking tracks which include scoundrel days, Minor earth major sky, celice and hunting high and low. They have a dedicated fan base and there finale concert in Norway on 4 dec 2010 which went on sale yesterday has sold out. I have met them a few times and really appreciate their fans. They will be truley missed.
