60-Person Belgian Girls Choir Cover Kings Of Leon, Peter Gabriel And More

Imagine dozens of young girls wrapping their voices around tunes by Metallica, Kings of Leon, Peter Gabriel and Nirvana. Well, you've just imagined the new Scala & Kolacny Brothers record "Circle." The group is a 60-person Belgian girls choir and its new album showcase a variety of rock classics done up choir style.

The group dates back to the 1990s and is led by Stijn Kolacny, who conducts, and Steven Kolacny, who arranges and plays piano. "Circle" will be the ensemble's tenth release. This isn't the a cappella stuff Ben Folds was into, but rather, a much more refined version of what your middle school choir probably sounded like.

Listen to the track samples for evidence. They bring a convincing mournfulness to Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody," and make Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill" sound jauntier than he probably ever intended (the song is supposedly an allegory about him leaving his original band, Genesis).

Other interesting cover songs from the album's tentative track listing include "Lithium" by Nirvana, "I Feel You" by Depeche Mode, "Bad" by U2, "Suzanne" by Leonard Cohen, "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette and "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica. A U.S. release date is in the works.
