Prefix has received confirmation from sources inside KRS/5RC that 5 Rue Christine will be going "dormant" for an undefined period. The label still plans to release the 2007 albums that are already on the schedule, (the label had releases by BARR, Marnie Stern and The Mae Shi slated for February) but doesn't plan on signing any new acts or releasing further albums for the time being. In addition to this, we have received confirmation from John Chavez, a member of 5RC's The Punks, that excerpts from a private online discussion he had that surfaced yesterday are legitimate. These excerpts claim, among other things, that a long shot proposal was submitted by Chavez and others to "take over the 5RC label and brand, and recreate it into something that we would all like to see... a comprehensive music / publishing / art / performance clearinghouse, complete with a physical space, located in new york city, operated separately from the original company." The proposal was ultimately rejected.
We'll continue to follow this story and update with any further developments.
